Why a code goes VOID overnight

3 min read · Verification team · September 17, 2026

A code that worked yesterday can fail today, and it's rarely because we made a mistake the first time. Here are the most common reasons a working code goes VOID between checks.

The promotion simply ended

Merchants set start and end dates on promo campaigns, and those windows aren't always publicized. A code can be live one evening and expired by morning without any public announcement.

Usage caps are reached

Some codes are capped at a total redemption count set by the merchant — once that cap is hit, the code stops working for everyone, regardless of when you found it.

New-customer restrictions

A code that worked in our test cart (using a fresh test account) may be restricted to accounts that have never ordered before. If you've shopped with a store previously, a first-order-only code can fail even though our check showed it as PASS.

Regional or currency restrictions

Some codes are scoped to a specific country or currency at checkout. Our checks run from a fixed region, so a code we mark PASS can still fail for shoppers checking out from elsewhere.

What we do about it

Every live code is re-run through checkout every 24 hours. The instant one fails, it's stamped VOID — we don't wait for a report. If you hit a dead code between our checks, refreshing the offer page will usually show the latest status within a day.
